Solidarités international

Partnership’s description

In response to the cholera epidemic that has ravaged Haiti since the end of October, Solidarités  International and ALIMA decided to work together to minimize the spread of the epidemic and treat afflicted patients more efficiently.  Solidarités International is predominantly a water specialist.  To reduce the impact of a cholera epidemic, it is essential both to treat patients as early as possible also to investigate the reasons for the contamination and to improve access to water and sanitation at the beginning of cholera outbreak.  A healthcare participant (ALIMA) and water participant (Solidarités) working closely together can optimise this response.  In addition, Solidarités International’s expertise has enabled the opening of treatment centres, which require a lot of work to manage excreta and large amounts of water, as quickly as possible.
